Mountain Peony / Cortex Moutan extract

The Peony root in China is known as Mu Dan Pi, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a widely used herb. The root cortex mainly contains phenol, paeonosidide, paeonolid, apiopaoidoside, paeoniflorine, oxpaeoniflorine, benzoyl paeonifloride, benzoyloxypioneiflorum, gallic acid etc. It also contains volatile oils, phytosterols, benzoic acids, sucrose, glucose, etc.

It has a bitter and spicy taste. According to TCM theory, it promotes blood circulation, venous blood flow (blood stasis), eliminates blood flow, cleanses blood. Clinical treatments have demonstrated analgesic anticonvulsant and antioxidant, as well as cholesterol and blood pressure lowering effects.
